Lingard Dropped for Euros
Forgive me if already posted but can anyone understand why Southgate has done this? Seems nuts to me.

Doesn't fit the Southgate age profile? Doesn't play at right back?

Southgate (imo) is stealing a living as England manager by being a yes man for the suits. Very very limited at the job.

Expect him to fade into obscurity/media work once this England gig comes to an end.

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
Seems harsh when you see some of the shit that made the cut. A right back not capable of defending, a hopeless CM ( no, the other one), a 'forward' with no technique whatsoever....

Southgate is a hapless manager and I fully expect him to be tactically shown up again as soon as we play anyone half decent.

Still, who cares? He's not our player and England football is for cunts. Fuck em.

Maybe something to do with the drop-off in Lingard's form in the last few matches of the season? If he'd kept it up I don't see how Southgate could have left him out. Was it form or was it effort? Maybe he thought he'd done enough and got complacent. Who knows?

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
Whether or not Lingard should have gone, Southgate has properly bottled it by taking FOUR right-backs, hasn't he?

That was the only tough decision he had to make about the squad, and he completely bottled it. It does not bode well. Still, all four right-backs (two of which won't kick a ball in their position) are all from so-called 'big' clubs, aren't they?

Lingard has been electric at times since January. I find it hard to believe there was no place for him - or, at least, another creative player or striker.

If England are 2-1 down in extra time and desperately need a goal, Southgate looks along his bench for inspiration...right-back, right-back, right-back...

That assumes he has picked 4 RB's - I suggest that he has picked 2, with 2 right sided CB's
I advocated here a week or two back that we need play a 3 at the back, with Walker to provide pace and sweep on the right
All makes sense to me and would have done the same

Crassus 1:08 Wed Jun 2
Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
For good order, I meant 2 right sided CB's and 2 right wing backs, start Trent in the games where we dominate possession and James against the bigger sides

All makes sense and yes, I could see Trent replacing James as we chase a goal against France working

Hopefully this helps keep the price down and he'll be ready to go day 1 of the new season if we get him. 4 RB's what a twat Southgate is!

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
Crassus - all well and good, but neither Walker nor James have played enough games at CB to justify being picked in those positions.

You could perhaps make an argument for Walker, but not James, as a CB. Not yet. He might go on to be a fine CB, but he's barely played there for Chelsea - let alone his country.

More realistically, Southgate has bottled it and picked four players from four 'big' clubs, thinking that two of them 'might' do a job a CB at a push.

That's just wishful thinking. He should know by now - this tournament has been delayed for a year. You watch, first mistake either Walker or James make at CB, and Southgate will roll out the 'not their favoured position' excuse.

It's just weak selection. All four of the RBs are good players - but Southgate had to be brave and pick two, or three at most, of them. He bottled it. Now we look a bit light in other parts of the squad.

There's an inate conservatism that cripples England managers when they pick squads. I think the FA just sucks any form of innovation or risk out of managers.

What other manager who wants to win it would pick four right back players and two badly injured players .
Strange..

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
Harsh on Lingard

Southgate clueless with that squad.....and invited pressure on himself with 4 right backs 5 midfielders 1 of which hasnt kicked a ball and 2 strikers

Dont know how Saka is in over him either, in what scenario will Saka get gametime???

Mount or Grealish get injured which is plausable how often they get booted up in the air it only leaves Foden as a CAM in the squad

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
Completely pointless & illogical decision on many levels to pick him for tonight if he's not in the squad.
The players actually going need game time as a team, no?
If he has blinder is The waistcoat going to drop someone else from the squad for Jesse?
Can only assume there must be doubts about others fitness but he's not a direct replacement for them in any case.
Why not just drop one of the 4 right backs who will add nothing to the squad or be able to change a game like Jesse can, and won't even get a kick unless 3 of them get injured.

I think Southgate will have listened to the backlash

I can see one of the right backs being declared unfit shortly.

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
this is a bloke who cashed in on fans misery back in 96 by making an advert for pizza hut, he doesn't give a tick about a backlash. He said as much yesterday when questioned that it they'd been six rightbacks that had got in his top twenty six players, he'd have picked them. he is a useless, horse faced cunt

Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
I concur Miike. The bloke won very little as a player and fuck all as a manager. But now he's England manager. How does this happen? He will be found out tactically once again, but it's ok because he picks players that are fucking 12 years old.

Nagel 10:32 Wed Jun 2
Re: Lingard Dropped for Euros
I agree with Crassus on this. Looks like plan could be to play 3 at the back, with one of the right backs as RCB and one as RWB.

Southgate probably wants to copy how we played in the first half of the season, when Creswell played as centre back when out of possession and left back when in possession while Masuaku went from LB to LW. It could work well with this England squad.

vexed, he reminds me of chris coleman. sadly there are plenty of these type of managers who get jobs they don't deserve
